New Feature: Expense Tracking

Here's a conversation that happens in just about every nanny family at the end of the week:

"Oh — and I bought gas on Tuesday when we drove to the museum. And I think I covered lunch on Thursday? Let me find the receipt..."

Hours and pay have always been the easy part in Daily Nanny. Your nanny clocks in and out, the app does the math, and everyone knows exactly what's owed. But the money nannies spend out of their own pockets — gas, craft supplies, snacks, parking, admission to the aquarium — has been living in text messages, crumpled receipts, and memory. And things that live in memory get forgotten.

Not anymore. Daily Nanny now tracks expenses.

How It Works

On the shifts page, tap Add and you'll now see two options: Add Shift and Add Expense. Logging an expense takes a few seconds — enter the amount, pick a date, choose a category (gas, supplies, food, parking, or other), and add a quick note if you want. That's it.

Expenses show up right in the weekly list alongside shifts, and they count toward the week's total. So when you look at a week and it says what's owed, that number now includes both wages and expenses. No separate tally, no mental math, no "wait, did I pay you back for that?"

Settling Up Is One Tap

Each week in the shifts list has a banner showing the total owed — orange while anything is unpaid, green once everything is settled. The "Mark All Paid" button now takes care of everything in the week at once: every shift and every expense, marked paid in one tap.

You can also mark individual expenses as reimbursed, the same way you mark individual shifts as paid — handy if you settle expenses on the spot but pay wages weekly.

For Nannies and Parents

Both sides of the relationship can add and see expenses. A nanny can log the gas she bought on the way to swim lessons the moment she's back in the car. A parent can log the cash they handed over for the week's activities. Everyone sees the same numbers, and the end-of-week conversation becomes "yep, that all looks right" instead of a receipt scavenger hunt.

Available Now

Expense tracking is included with a Daily Nanny premium subscription, and it's available now in the latest update on both iOS and Android. Update the app, head to the shifts page, and try it out.

This feature exists because users asked for it — so if there's something that would make your nanny-family relationship run smoother, tell me about it. I read everything.

Happy tracking! -Dave
